The Lighter Side
Demetrios (Demi) and Michalakis (Lagi) Demetriou are father and son duo from North London. Describing themselves as ‘two fat versions of Michael Flatley with a Greek element’ their act was the surprise of the Britians Got Talent 2009 series, coming third behind Susan Boyle and dance act Diversity. The act began as a restaurant show when to compensate for the bad food Demetrios would entertain his customers.
Demi noticed an advert for Britians Got Talent and thought it would be a gag to enter with his son Lagi -- who had not seen his father's restaurant show. The rest is history, with the father and son team making their way into the finals of the show and YouTube history -- not so much on their talent, which they admit to having litle of, but in their timing. In a global viilage surrounded by dark clouds we all needed to laugh. To laugh at our selves. To laugh at our pretensions. To laugh at two chubby Greek Cypriots that look an aweful lot like the rest of us.
